No Spoiler Approach & Landing

Overview

The Private Pilot Glider Practical Test Standard refers to this required maneuver as “Slips to Landing”.  The purpose of the maneuver is to demonstrate the ability to control the landing pattern ground track while using a slip to control the glider’s rate of descent.  In my opinion, it is one of the most challenging and (when done correctly) most satisfying things you can do in a glider.
